HP 21/22 vs 21XL/22XL

Thursday, August 13, 2009

The Hewlett Packard XL21 and XL22 cartridges are new “Value” packaged offerings from HP but they are really the old 21/22 cartridges; the 21 and 22 cartridges are the ones that are truly new.

HP21 is now a “Small Foam” cartridge; the cartridge’s Ink Chamber has been divided with an internal wall and its foam block is 62% smaller. OEM fill weight has been lowered to achieve the “2.5x More Prints!” advertised on the 21XL Value Packaging.

HP22 has not changed to a Small Foam cartridge but its foam has changed from felted higher ppi foam to un-felted foam like found in Lexmark cartridges. OEM fill weight is slightly lower but IJF Fill Settings will not change.
